Westmoreland Glass from the Roaring Twenties
RARE 90 YEAR OLD GLASS TREASURES
The majority of these lovely items appear in the
1924 and 1926 catalogs. The immense variety of hand
paintings, wheel cut designs and casings could never
be done today without an incredibly expensive product
and end result due to the labor intensive work these
    processes involved.

Here is a gorgeous Westmoreland Glass 4 piece console
set from the mid 1920’s featuring a #1865 Bell Bowl, a
pair of #1042 Candlesticks and a #1031 base. The Cased color, as far as I could deduce from my reference materials is either Lavender, Lilac or Mauve, all colors
available at that time and all seemingly somewhat similar.
The #1865 bowl measures 9-¾” in diameter and by
itself, stands 4” tall. It was produced with 2 different feet.
This one has a knobbed foot with a short indented
ankle. The stand for the bowl measures 3-½” in
diameter and is 1-¼” tall. The candlesticks are 9-¾”
tall with a base diameter of 5-5/8”. The entire set is in remarkably excellent condition. No chips, cracks, nicks or flea bites. The lavender color is intact throughout,
no scratching or wear. The gold trim is in excellent
condition, very little wear anywhere. It’s truly beautiful
and truly remarkable that a complete set could travel
through time 90 years and still look nearly as it did when it was manufactured.

    Cased Glass
Casing was a process of taking various elements
(glass dust, oil, pigmentation) and coating the
piece, usually just the outside if hand painting
is to be added, then firing those elements so
that they and the clear glass become one colored
piece. It is encased. It gives a dimensional effect,
for when a bowl or compote is viewed from above, any hand painted decorations on the inside clear glass
seem to float on the surface with the color layer below.
